UCC Youth Theatre offers an introduction to theatre skills for young people aged 14+. Over 12 weeks of theatre-based workshops participants will gain an understanding of basic theatre techniques, developing creatively and working both independently and part of an ensemble. During workshops participants will experience different approaches to devising theatre – including physical theatre, improvisation, writing and character development. UCC Youth Theatre is open to any young person with an interest in building theatre skills, developing creatively and meeting like-minded people. Members will take part the Youth Theatre Symposium including attending Playshare a national new play performance event hosted by Youth Theatre Ireland.

Bio

Maxine Acton works as a freelance creative artist facilitator with a particular interest in the facilitation of groups in the creation of new work and Applied Theatre (teaching through theatre) practices. She has worked with many organisations including Graffiti Theatre Company and Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre in Cork and Youth Theatre Ireland, Dublin.

Maxine also lectures in the Department of Theatre in UCC. She is a graduate of the same department, with a BA in Theatre Studies and a Masters by Research in feminist dramaturgies. She is currently pursuing a Creative Practice PhD for her research on Drama for Medicine.
